Andreas Dengel Receives Top Honor in the Field of Document Analysis

Prof. Andreas Dengel, Scientific Director and Site Director at DFKI Kaiserslautern, was honored with the IAPR/ICDAR Outstanding Achievement Award at the International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR 2019) in Sydney.
Presented every two years since 1999, the award recognizes exceptional achievements in basic research, student research, and industrial research in the field of pattern recognition. Prof. Dengel was selected for his contributions to semantic reading systems, innovative socioeconomic solutions, and his leadership role in the document analysis community.
Document analysis was recently selected by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as one of the ten most significant technologies in the history of German AI. Prof. Dengel has made a name for himself as a national pioneer in this field and has founded numerous companies, including Insiders Technologies and b4value.net.
The ICDAR conference series is sponsored by the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), which includes organizations from 44 countries. By accepting this award, Prof. Dengel joins an illustrious list of previous recipients dating back to 1999.
